Draft presentation for my fourth evaluation question
Although I originally tried to do my fourth question on slide share I then could not upload it on to my final website so I decided to transfer it on to a prezi document.

My draft for my video diary for my third evaluation question
What I think I am going to say for the third question:
I got some positive comments back from twitter that said the use of the voice over throughout reminded them of a real documentary, adding other peoples opinions such as the four friends also made it seem more real and the idea of having coming up next made the documentary seem more continuous and not just a piece of one off media work. I also received positive comments from my peers that said I had a good variety of shots including close ups when the friends were giving their opinions and wide shots at times when interviewing the girl, the footage I had filmed was good and appropriate to what my documentary about. For example having the doctor as my professional fitted well with the theme of the documentary. The settings I had chosen were also good such as the office for the Doctor looked like it could have been a real doctors office, speaking to the girl in the bedroom gave the feel of it being a relaxed and friendly interview which I wanted to get across in my documentary and the editing was also good because it made it clear what my documentary was about by having things like the tag lines so the audience knew who was speaking and who they were. My teacher said some of the things I had filmed were good such as me speaking directly into the camera, the footage of the train and the doctor speaking.
I also received some negative comments which were mainly about things people thought I could add to the documentary. People said that the documentary does not end well and I should include what is coming up next to make it seem like a continuing documentary and that when I first did my rough cut the doctor and friend spoke to much so therefore I needed to spread them out. My peers said that the camera was a bit shaky at some points in the documentary and I should have held it stiller and they also said I should use better sound in some parts of my documentary.
The comments I have received will effect the way I work as an individual in the future because I have learnt that when you are working on your own it is only your opinion affecting the work you produce and the decisions you make. This means that what you might think looks good or does not look good might not be the same to someone else. Therefore in the future I will constantly make sure other people are looking at my work all the time so I can get other peoples opinions as I do a project and not wait towards the end and then realize that it could be improved and have to do a lot of work to do them improvements.
The comments have also taught me that producing and editing a video is a long process where you have to keep getting other peoples opinions on it and completely changing it so it fits your target audience perfectly. They have also taught me that it is a lot harder than I originally thought pleasing everyone and fitting what everyone wants in to my documentary.

My draft for my video diary of my first evaluation question
What I think I am going to say for the first question:
When deciding to do a documentary I researched the conventions of one to make sure that when I made my documentary and compared it to others they were similar. This was to ensure that it looked and felt like a real documentary. When doing my research by watching other documentaries and researching into the conventions I found that the most important ones are a voice over, real footage of events, technicality of realism, interviews with experts, text and sound. In my documentary I used all of these main conventions. I used a voice over to explain to the audience where I was going and to help them understand why I was doing such things such as checking the doors and ending with washing my hands. This was to make it clear to the audience the challenges I was facing that would they would be seeing in the second part of the documentary. I used real footage of events by filming outside, in my home, in a bedroom, in a house. This was to show the audience that everything in the documentary was real and personal to myself. In other documentaries of this sort I have also seen this used and felt it worked effectively so decided to use it in my own. For example a recent documentary on BBC about a girl attempting to clime a mountain has shots of her in her house surrounded by her friends. This is use of real footage of events that make the documentary look real because it is filmed in her own home. This is why I decided to use that convention in my documentary. Using technicality of realism by having very natural lighting links in with real footage of events as by using both of these things the audience are convinced it is a documentary done on real life. This is what I wanted the audience to feel because my documentary was done on something very personal and not made up. I also have included interviews with experts at this convention is included in most documentaries to back up what the person featuring in the documentary may be saying. I used the interview with an expert in a different way to give me advice and to give the audience of my documentary knowledge about OCD and to make them be able to understand more. This is similar to the way Stacey Solomon used her interview with an expert to give her advice about depression which also gave information to the audience and showed her on a journey to learn more. This is why i decided to also use it. I also used text and sound but not much. I think the only text you need in documentaries is tag lines of who the person is speaking. I have seen this in a lot of documentaries and its works well so the audience know who is speaking and when they speak again later on in the documentary the audience already know who they are and can relate back to what they have said before. I also used a small amount of sound over the tittle and pictures I used which I have seen used in real documentaries.
For my ancillary tasks I chose to do a magazine article and a radio advert. The radio adverts main conventions were details such as time and date, powerful words and facts. In some radio adverts they also use conventions such as being funny or making a jokes. The conventions I decided to use were facts, powerful words and details. As my documentary was on mental health I thought it was important to make the radio advert serious and not funny. Radio adverts that are funny and have jokes work for some companies such as nandos radio advert but not for a serious documentary. The main conventions of a magazine article are catchy headlines, bold writing that stands out against the picture, some writing but not a lot and a big picture that takes up most of the page. I used a big picture that took up the whole page with a girl holding a sign with a little bit of writing. My main title was big, bold and white which stood out against the dark picture so it contrasted well. I did not use catchy headlines but instead used a tagline with a rhetorical question which would make my audience think and catch their attention, I also used a small sub title with details about when the show will be on. I used this instead of a big catchy headline because it fits the mood of my documentary more. For example BBC3 use magazine adverts that focus very much of one thing. I chose to focus on the girl featuring in my documentary.
My use of conventions will appeal to an audience because as soon as they begin watching my documentary the use of the voice over and real footage and interview with an expert means they know they are watching the documentary and therefore have an idea from previous documentaries what may happen. This is will attract an audience because they can relate what they are seeing to previous documentaries and can understand the genre better. The conventions I chose to use in my ancillary task will appeal to an audience because they are simple and easy to understand but also powerful. By having a girl as the main focus on my magazine article with a title and a few words the audience know straight away what they are getting. The radio advert is similar to others that are effective such as the nandos one because it gets straight to the point and does not drag on. This appeals to the audience because they do not switch off and can continue to listen because it is short. This is unlike the Alton Towers one where when asking people what one they preferred they said not that one because they felt it went on for to long.
Lastly I adapted some conventions such as interview with experts by having interviews with other people as well. In some documentaries I watched when doing my research they focused on people who know what they are speaking about. However when watching ones on depression week on BBC3 they also interviewed their friends and family. I chose to also do this because I thought it adapted the original convention well. I also adapted the convention on my magazine advert by not having very much writing at all. This looks better because the audience can really focus on the main purpose of the magazine advert and know what the documentary is about.

Changes from rough cut 3 to final documentary
I changed a few things from my rough cut 3 to my final documentary. At first i decided that it would be my final documentary but after discussing with my teacher and looking at it myself I decided to change a few more things. I added more music over the train, changed more music over what is coming next and I also added an ending because I felt it ended to abruptly. I also rerecorded the voiceover at the beginning introducing the new documentary because it didn't sound very good.

Changes from second rough cut to final documentary
I made a few final changes from my second rough cut to my final documentary. These last few changes were adding voice overs to my previous documentary in order to make it flow better and make better sense to the audience so they know where I am going and to have better sense of what is coming up next. I also decided to do this because when doing my research I learnt that most documentaries have a lot of voice overs so I wanted to add more.

Rough cut 2
)
This my second rough cut. I have changed a lot since my first rough cut and thought a lot more about the conventions of a documentary and tried to follow them a lot more.
This my second rough cut. I have changed a lot since my first rough cut and thought a lot more about the conventions of a documentary and tried to follow them a lot more.
General audience feedback from second rough cut
I have collected feedback for my second rough cut of my documentary.
The main things people think went well are:
The main things people think went well are:
- My framing of the shots.
- My variety of shots such as having close up, mid shots and wide shot.
- My shooting material being appropriate to my documentary.
- Mise-en-scene including my lighting and the setting being an office for the psychologist and a bedroom for the casual conservation with the girl.
- Editing so it is clear to the viewer what my documentary is about and what my documentary is featuring.
What I could improve:
- I could hold the camera more steadily at certain parts of the documentary.
- Use better sound with certain parts of my documentary.
What I am going to change:
- If I had more time to film I would re film the parts where the camera is slightly shaky, However because I do not have time I am going to edit and change the sound by adding more voiceovers to my documentary as that whats some people said would make it better in my feedback.

Changes to script
When I originally filmed my Doctor she followed the script I set out perfectly. However when I started editing I realised from the feedback I received that to have her saying all of that in one time was to much. I therefore cut a lot out from what my Doctor said out but still did use part of what she said in the script for my documentary.

Changes from my first rough cut to my second rough cut
In my first rough cut I put everything I had filmed together without really thinking much about how I wanted it to be. When I had more time I went back and cut a lot out from the doctor and the two girls speaking. I also added in pictures, more people giving their opinions, titles and some voice overs. When doing this I refereed back to my planning I had done at the beginning and watched more documentaries so I could remember how I wanted my documentary to be. I feel like I made massive improvements from my first rough cut to my second.

Radio Advert - Finished
This is my finished radio advert. I chose to do this as my radio advert as the documentary is focused on something quite serious, therefore I wanted the radio advert to reflect this. I also chose to start with the fact because I think that grabs audiences attention, especially if they were sitting in the car and this was to come on the radio. I also chose to end with "BBC, Tuesday, 8pm" because I wanted to use the rule of three as this is powerful and sticks in peoples minds.
Magazine article - Finished
This is my finished magazine article. The improvements I have made from my first draft to my finished product is cropping the picture more so it is focused on the girl and her sign, I lightened the picture slightly so you could see the picture better, I also made the title of the documentary bigger and bolder so it stands out as well as adding a tag line. I chose this tag line because it is simple for my target audience but also confusing and would cause the audience to think. The BCC3 logo and the time of the documentary bigger so it is clear to the audience when the documentary is happening.
